The creators of this libguide include all three 5th Grade Classes at The Lane School.

Students were simply introduced to the concept of trash, an integral part of our life that often goes overlooked, and then we let our discussions drive the direction of our learning. Using a Bloom's Taxonomy "House", we started collecting questions about trash, then we started finding answers and processing all of the data, before finally trying to find applications for this new knowledge.

After a time we decided that we needed to find a "medium" to share our new knowledge. A libguide was the winner, yet none of us (including Mr. Horne), had ever created or worked with a libguide! Mr. Horne only gave one main directive: Find an innovative and creative way to show what you have learned. The results, as you can see, are fantastic. Students created comic life poster, interactive posters, attached documents, created links to other sites, displayed images, developed podcasts and even did some hands on projects (see the Recycling page for examples).

The hope is that the students won't stop with this guide. Hopefully they will take this experience and extend it even further to better their community.

Thank you for reading and enjoying our libguide!

Sincerely,

Mr. Justin Horne
